memories fade away, preserve them with Dynamic DVD!
Trust Dynamic DVD to preserve your memories and make sure you know what you are
buying! There are many tape to dvd conversion companies who simply plug your
precious memories into low quality DVD recorders and send you the result. This
is the inferior way to preserve your memories as no digital corrections can be
made to the video or the audio. For more information see the
benefits of using Dynamic DVD.
The Video Formats 1: Video8 and Hi8
At 8mm, the tape was smaller, and revolutionised home video.
Hi8 (analogue)
Like S-VHS, Hi8 uses S-Video processing to produce better quality images in
playback. Hi8 recordings are made using Metal Evaporated tape coatings which
produce much higher resolution recordings. As an analogue recording medium, Hi8
produces a significantly higher quality than, say, VHS and is on a par with
S-VHS. However, the main advantage of the format is its small size. The 90
minutes maximum recording time can be achieved with far less tape than, say,
VHS. The smaller tape size has enabled the manufacturers to produce
smaller-sized camcorders. It is from this than the Sony Handycam product range
emerged (and others since). Of the non-digital formats (eg: mini-DV, Digital8,
DVC-Pro, DV-Cam), Hi8 is considered to be the better analogue format.
With the introduction of, and widespread take-up, of the newer digital formats
(mini-DV first appeared in 1995 in the form of the infamous Sony DCR-VX1000E
camcorder) it is inevitable that Video8 and Hi8 formats will soon find their
way into the history books. Anticipating this - and, no doubt, with a view to
prolonging its 8mm tape production facilities for a few more years - Sony
cleverly adapted the format to enable the recording of DV-like digital signals
to existing analogue 8mm tapes. The result of this has been Digital8. Many
Digital8 camcorders enable users to not only record and play back digitally but
to playback Video8 and Hi8 analogue recordings, too. This is particularly
useful for importing older analogue tape recordings into a computer-based video
editing set-up.
